Henna (mehendi)
Also known as: mehndi, mehendi, henna
Henna, also called mehendi or mehndi, is a plant-based paste applied to the skin to create temporary designs, traditionally for weddings and celebrations.
What it is
Paste made from the henna plant is applied in intricate patterns and left to dry, then removed. The stain darkens over a day or two and fades within one to three weeks.
What to expect
Bridal designs can take several hours. Natural henna leaves a reddish-brown stain. Aftercare, such as keeping the paste on longer and avoiding water, improves colour depth.
What to ask before booking
Confirm the paste is natural henna. "Black henna" can contain a harmful dye (PPD) and should be avoided.
